3 Bedroom bungalow Chalfont St Peter, Buckinghamshire £945,000

A hugely deceptive 3 bedroom detached chalet-style Bungalow with beautiful rural views and enviable seclusion

Twin Oaks is a beautiful and unique home, which is set in glorious gardens and overlooks acres of picturesque countryside.

Sitting under the beautiful weeping willow tree, the owners watch the fish in the pond and the wildlife out in the fields. From their individual home near Chalfont St Peter they have views out across acres of field and farmland, allowing them to feel close to nature throughout the year. "We see so much wildlife here," says one of the owners. "There is a rather arrogant pheasant who sometimes drops in and we have a daily visit from two ducks who come for a swim. For two years, they made their home here and we would have eight or nine ducklings waddling across the lawn!" The pond is also well-stocked with all sorts of different fish. "I think there must be 25 or 30 in there now - and some of them are over two foot long!" he adds.

Twin Oaks has been home to the owners for approximately 35 years now. "We were drawn to the rural and tranquil setting," the owner explains. "In 1978, we completely rebuilt the house, designing it to be a superb family home, with an emphasis on entertaining as well. It has always been a lively place, where everyone gathers: we have a big social life and often have barbecues and garden parties." The property was designed to offer well-proportioned living space inside. "It is a very light house - the sun streams in throughout the day," he observes.

INSIDE AND OUT

The property is entered via an airy reception hall, which leads to a ground floor shower room and two of the bedrooms, as well as the living space. There is a drawing room and very spacious dining room, which opens on to the garden, as well as into the kitchen. There is also a large utility room or workshop. "The dining room is a fabulous multi-functional space," the owner says. "We have seated as many as 30 in there for a meal. At Christmas time we have put trestle tables in a square, with the tree and all the presents in the middle." He adds: "This room leads on to the terrace, also making it ideal for barbecues and then we have the area we fondly call "The Mediterranean Garden," which we use as an outside dining room in fine weather."

GENEROUS SPACE

The master bedroom is on the first floor of Twin Oaks and benefits from an en suite bathroom and walk-in dressing area. This arrangement of rooms has worked well for family living and welcoming overnight guests. Subject to the relevant planning permission, there could be scope to extend the house if required. Further useful space, however, can be found at the end of the garden, beside the pond, where there is a large log cabin-style garden office or studio. "I work from here and it has been ideal," Colin says. "It is a large space, which has a separate phone line, and has plenty of room for desks and computers. It could have a variety of possible uses for new owners, however."

EXCELLENT LOCATION

"Despite the tranquillity of the setting, Twin Oaks is incredibly well located," says the owner. "It is in an incredible position for reaching the M25, M1, M40 and M4," he points out. "As rural as it is, you can drive into central London within 30 to 35 minutes if you time your journey right. I think it is pretty unique to find somewhere so quiet that offers such accessibility." Local shops can be found in Chalfont St Peter, Chalfont St Giles and Little Chalfont, with the large centres of Gerrards Cross, Uxbridge and Watford within easy reach. "We have a pub within walking distance and a couple of corner shops about a mile and a half away. There are also some good restaurants in this area."

FOND MEMORIES

Those who enjoy walking, cycling or horse-riding have plenty of places to choose from when it comes to beauty spots. "You are also spoiled for choice if you play golf as there are so many good courses," he adds. The owners have savoured the past 35 years at their home but now plan to spend more time abroad. "We will miss it," he admits. "It is a very beautiful place to be and there is nothing quite like sitting out by the wild garden in the evening, having a gin and tonic and enjoying the tranquillity."

SETTING THE SCENE
Twin Oaks sits beautifully within its mature gardens. To the front there are electric gates, which open on to an expansive driveway, with ample parking for up to 15 cars. To the rear, the house opens on to exquisite landscaped gardens, which have been laid to lawn and offer terrace areas for outdoor dining and entertaining. These include a Mediterranean-style garden, an orchard and a wild garden; there is a charming, ornamental fish pond and a very useful outdoor office or summer house.
WITHIN EASY REACH
The property has easy access to transport links and is close to the A40 and M40, providing access to London and Oxfordshire. Heathrow Airport and the M4 are also a short distance away. Access to London can be obtained via the Chiltern Line at Gerrards Cross station, taking approximately 18 minutes to arrive at Marylebone station.
