3 Bedroom detached house Church Lane, Wexham £900,000

A Three Bedroom Bedroom character house located in a private drive in Wexham on a good size plot of 0.37 acres. UNEXPECTEDLY RE-AVAILABLE. HUGE POTENTIAL STPP.

Set down a tranquil drive in Wexham, Old House Lodge is an attractive family home, with ample character, mature gardens, good living space and the potential for a separate annexe.

Setting the scene
Old House Lodge is set in beautiful, mature gardens of approximately one-third of an acre in size. It has a terrace and lawn and is well screened for privacy. There is a separate, detached garage, with a shower room at ground-floor level and a bedroom or room with other possible uses, upstairs.
The Story
Sitting out on the terrace in the garden, watching the birds in the trees, the owner of Old House Lodge soaks up the serenity of her Wexham home. The four-bedroom property nestles in mature grounds, on a private drive, within grounds that were once part of an old manor house. “Old House Lodge would have been where the chauffeur or gardener to the manor house lived,” the explains. “The house dates back to the 1930s and still has a lot of its original character.” It was 28 years ago now that she moved to the property, having been drawn to it by its location, as well as its charm. “It is such a peaceful place,” she recalls. “Yet it is also very convenient for Gerrards Cross, Slough, Windsor and, of course, London.”
Airy Space
Originally a two-up, two-down, Old House Lodge has been significantly extended. Today it offers three bedrooms in the main house, plus an additional bedroom in a separate building, above the garage. “It is now a lovely, airy home, with lots of light,” she explains. “It still has much of its character, as well as a more modern feel in the kitchen and bathrooms and has provided us with very good living space in the time we have been here.” The garage, which is detached from the main house, features a ground floor shower room. A flight of stairs leads up to the first floor of the building, where there is a large studio room, with sky-light windows. “We have used this as a guest room, but it could have all sorts of purposes,” she agrees. “It could easily become a superb home for someone wishing to work from home or have another use.”
Annexe Potential
Indeed, this room could be ideal as a studio, therapy room, practice or other space. It could also be perfect as a games room, teenagers’ den or some kind of other leisure area. There could also be potential here, subject to the relevant planning permissions, to transform the whole building into a more substantial annexe or cottage, with a kitchen and living space within the current double garage area. The grounds of over one-third of an acre offer ample space for the creation of another garage, should one be required – or potentially a separate outbuilding work room or office. “There is significant flexibility here already with this property and certainly a lot more that new owners could do with it to suit their own requirements.”
Summer & Winter
Entered from the front, via the private drive, Old House Lodge is an appealing double-fronted property. The entrance hall leads to a family room or snug, which overlooks the gardens to the rear of the house. “This is a nice room to sit in and watch television in the evening,” she says. To the right of this room, double doors open into the spacious drawing room, which has French windows on to the garden and a wood-burning stove. “This is a lovely place to be in both the summer and winter and is ideal for entertaining, especially when the weather is warm and the doors on to the garden are open,” she adds.
Green Views
Beyond the family room or snug to the left, is the dining room. This provides good space for a large dining table and chairs and offers access through to the kitchen breakfast room, which has something of a garden room feel, via two sets of glass doors. Again, this superb area can be arranged to suit the needs of the next owners. It has plenty of room for food storage and preparation, as well as a breakfast table and chairs. “I love sitting in here, looking out on to the garden,” she admits. “There are bi-folding doors that can be pulled right back in the summer.”
A Happy Home
All three main bedrooms are upstairs at Old House Lodge, together with the family bathroom. The master bedroom is a generous room, with a stylish en suite shower room, as well as a walk-in dressing room, with built-in storage. “This is a lovely bedroom, with plenty of space,” she says. “All the bedrooms here work well for family living and the separate room above the garage is ideal for visitors.” The location has also been perfect. There are local shops with a 15-minute stroll and two parks within walking distance. “We have two golf courses close by; it is fast to pick up motorways and we are well placed for reaching Heathrow Airport, which is probably about 30 minutes’ drive on a good day.” She adds: “Living here has suited us very well – and this has been a very happy and comfortable family home.”
