The daughter of the current owner recalls her own childhood growing up in the house and the many great occasions celebrated here. "This has been a great family home over the years," she says. "There was always plenty of space for all of us and for friends and family when they visited. We have had surprise parties here, 21st birthdays, engagements and my own wedding celebration. We had a marquee up on the lawn, which was so much fun that everyone came back the next day as well!" EXCEPTIONAL LOCATION It was, in fact, 55 years ago that the family first bought the three-bedroom house off-plan. "My mother cycled past the land on her bike and knew immediately that it would be perfect for us," she explains. "She had been brought up in the area and my grandparents lived nearby so she knew how nice it was. The location was ideal back then and it still is now. It is in the catchment area for the highly sought-after Ascot Heath and Charters schools, close to the High Street, with its shops and cafés, and within very easy reach of the racecourse - we used to have some brilliant times on the heath." GREAT SPACE The property is set in an area of Ascot which is known for its village feel, as well as its significant history. The road is believed to have been where King George would keep his hunting dogs in kennels when the royal family rode up from Windsor Castle to hunt on Ascot Heath. Set back from the road, and with a driveway for up to two cars, the house is entered via a hall leading to a ground floor shower room and the kitchen, as well as the long drawing room, with its bay window, and spacious family room, which has doors on to the garden. ALL SEASONS The owners have enhanced the property in the time they have been here, maintaining it and adding a few touches of their own. "The garage was originally at the front of the house but my parents converted it into a drawing room - this meant the back room was able to become the family or television room," she says. "This has been a fantastic space, especially in the summer when the doors on to the garden are opened up." She continues: "They also added the ground floor shower room and built a new garage." POSSIBLE CHANGES The family bathroom is up on the first floor, together with all three bedrooms. "This is a big house: all the bedrooms are doubles," she observes. "The whole property is very light an airy." Although it is ready to move into, the home could benefit from some updating if new owners wished to make their mark on it, she suggests. Subject to the relevant planning permissions, there could also be the potential to reconfigure or increase the accommodation further at the property if required. "I could see someone perhaps wishing to open the kitchen right up into the back room to create a lovely, light kitchen, dining and family room. This could be done without even having to extend. If new owners did wish to go out at the back, however, there would be room." And she adds: "The loft is very large - you can walk around up there quite easily and the landing below could be arranged to accommodate a staircase."
The house benefits from a front garden with a driveway providing off-street parking for at least two cars. There is also a garage. To the rear, the property opens on to a sunny garden, with mature trees, pretty beds and space to enjoy outside dining and relaxation.
The owners have enjoyed the greenery and sense of space about their home. "There was always somewhere to go walking when I was younger - I loved going off to play in the woods, only coming home for my tea!" she remembers. "Sometimes we also went to Windsor Great Park or Virginia Water." Some of the finest golf clubs in the world are also close by, along with a selection of health, leisure and tennis clubs. For shopping, there is also a wide choice of destinations, from the recently opened Lexicon Centre in Bracknell to the independent outlets of Ascot itself and Windsor. There are good connections to the M4, M40 and M3, and those living in the area enjoy superb access to stations with trains into London and the airports. "This place is very suitable for family living for many reasons," she says. "We have very happy memories of our time here."
