3 Bedroom semi-detached house New Road, Ascot £580,000

A three bedroom Semi Detached House

Pulling open the bi-folding doors from their gorgeous breakfast or garden room, Tom and Kim step out into the glorious morning sunshine to decide whether to have breakfast inside or out. Their attractive house, on Ascot’s New Road, is a magnificent home all year round, with inviting rooms and a fabulous, landscaped garden. “When the weather is warm, the garden basically becomes like another room in the house,” Kim explains. “We love having the doors open on a sunny day and being able to wander outside.” The couple have enhanced their outside space in the time they have been at the property, with the addition of a generous stretch of composite decking, and the creation of an outdoor seating area. “The decking enjoys sunshine throughout the day and is lovely to step out on to,” Tom says. “It is nice underfoot, non-slip and low-maintenance; it makes the garden a wonderful place to spend time.”

Believed to date back to the 1960s, three-bedroom Ashbrook is set back from the road by a driveway providing off-street parking for up to two cars. Exquisitely presented inside and out, the semi-detached house is a mirror image of its neighbour and is entered via a small hall leading to a cloakroom, study and all the main living space. “The office or study was once a garage but had been used by the previous owners as a children’s playroom. We converted it into an office, which has been great for working from home,” Tom explains.

The long drawing room leads through to the chic, contemporary kitchen and then the spectacular family or garden room, with its glass ceiling and bank of bi-folding doors. “It was this part of the house that really impressed me when I first saw it,” he recalls. “I loved the modern style of living it offered.” The drawing room has ample space for comfortable seating, while the kitchen, with its white high-gloss units, dark work surfaces and useful breakfast bar, is well-designed for food preparation, storage and chatting to the cook over a cup of coffee. The striking breakfast room is currently arranged with formal dining furniture but could equally be a relaxation room, with additional seating, should the new owners choose. “This has been such a good entertaining space,” Kim admits. “It has been a great place for having friends over.”

Stairs from the drawing room lead up to the first floor, where all three bedrooms and a family bathroom are situated. “Again, this has worked well for us as we always have plenty of room for people to stay,” Kim explains. Indeed, the whole house has been a comfortable place for daily living and for welcoming friends and family. “It was ready to move into when we arrived,” she adds. Since then, however, the couple have enhanced the property. This has included changing the colour scheme throughout the house, bringing in a palette of largely neutral shades and soft tones, and replacing bathroom fittings.

Despite the immaculate presentation of Ashbrook, new owners could still make their own mark on the property, Tom suggests. “There is potential here for extension (subject to the relevant planning permissions),” he says. “Someone could possibly extend out upstairs to create an extra bedroom and an en suite bathroom. There could also be scope for going up into the loft. A friend of ours who is an architect suggested there could be ample space for doing this.”

The couple, who agree they will miss their perfect home when they leave, have also enjoyed its highly convenient position in Ascot. The property is well placed for local schools, access to Ascot, Windsor and Bracknell and for getting to train stations. There are golf courses, leisure centres and health clubs nearby. “We have found it very easy to reach places to go shopping, to pick up motorways and to travel into London,” Tom says. “We have enjoyed having the racecourse on our doorstep and going for long walks there. We are also within reach of l
