They bought the three-bedroom property almost six years ago, having been attracted to its desirable situation, as well as its immaculate interior. "We used to live in a new-build home and wanted to move out to somewhere that had more of a country setting," one of those explains. "As soon as we walked into this house we just loved it and realised straight away that this was where we wanted to live. It had a lovely, large kitchen, which we knew would be great for entertaining - and the views out over the fields gave it that wonderful country feel we were looking for."
EXQUISITE INTERIOR
Believed to date back to the 1920s, the attractive, semi-detached house was originally part of the estate of a substantial country house and is likely to have been home to those who worked there. Set back from the road and surrounded by its own grounds on three sides, it offers family accommodation across two storeys. "When we first saw it, the house had been beautifully renovated by the people who were here before us, which was ideal," he recalls. "Since then we have maintained it ourselves very carefully and as such it is still ready for the next owners to move straight in and enjoy." The couple have also put their own touches on the house, including fitting a wood-burner downstairs and having an exquisite wooden floor laid. "It has been perfect for us," he adds.
ENTERTAINING AT HOME
The property is entered from the front via a bright entrance hall, with a walk-in cupboard and access into the splendid kitchen breakfast room and the inviting drawing room. "The kitchen is very much the show-piece of this house," he agrees. "It has a large central island, with a breakfast bar, and ample space for a table and chairs. We have had so many wonderful dinner parties in here, as well as barbecues out on the terrace, when we have opened up both sets of doors so everyone can wander in and out."
ALL SEASONS
This stylish room, which offers generous storage, as well as space for food preparation, leads through to a useful pantry, cloakroom, utility area and boot room. Also leading off the hall is the welcoming yet stylish drawing room, with its appealing brick fireplace and wood-burning stove. "This room becomes so cosy in the winter when we light the fire." Doors from here open on to another terrace and seating area to the side of the house. "We have enjoyed having the choice of different places to sit out quietly with a cup of coffee," he says.
LOOKING AHEAD
All three bedrooms and the good-sized family bathroom, which has a stunning, contemporary finish, complete with a television set into the wall, are situated up on the first floor of the house. "We have enjoyed all the space we have had here but new owners might wish to look into extending the house to create additional accommodation," he suggests. "Planning permission is in place for a fourth bedroom to be added above the drawing room. Likewise (subject to the relevant planning consents) you could also possibly extend all the way across the front."
SETTING THE SCENE
The house at Goose Corner benefits from off-road parking on a driveway to the front. To the side, there is a breakfast terrace and dining area. Doors from the rear of the house open on to a larger terrace, with even more space for outside dining and entertaining. There is an immaculate lawn, with space for children to play, and the garden, which is bordered by leafy trees and fields, enjoys a high degree of privacy.
WITHIN EASY REACH
The owners have enjoyed being part of village life, having a renowned pub within walking distance and benefiting from lots of scenic footpaths in the area. "We are only 15 minutes' drive from Bracknell, with its shopping centre and leisure facilities, yet we have fields and farm shops, making it feel like country living," he says. "We are also on the doorstep of London - it is very easy to commute in from here - and we are only 10 minutes from the M4." There are schools close by, as well as parks, woods and a lake. There is good access to Ascot for the racing and Windsor for shopping. "We will miss this lovely secluded setting when we go," he admits. "We have loved just sitting outside in the sunshine, watching the rare breed cows in the field and spotting the occasional deer."
