It is private and quiet here and yet we have the best of both worlds because of the great convenience, especially for anyone hoping to be able to commute into London or to have easy access to Ascot, Windsor and Maidenhead.”


Certainly, the three-bedroom property, which dates back to the 1930s, has all the appeal of a character cottage. “It is a really attractive, chocolate box house, which is set back from the road and has a good-sized, private front garden,” she says. Inside, the property offers bright, open-plan living and embodies a style that manages to be comfortable, modern and airy, while also still retaining the warm feel of a traditional country home. “It is a very pretty house, which has been extended in the past and was replastered, repainted and recarpetted inside just two years ago. The bathroom has been replaced by us very recently and now includes a large, walk-in shower and a free-standing bath.”


The inviting home is entered from the front via the hall and then the drawing room. “We have a wood-burner in here, which is lovely during the winter, and two large sofas so there is always plenty of space if we have friends over for the evening.” The stylish, spacious bathroom is also downstairs and then the rest of the ground floor is given over to the superb kitchen, breakfast and family room. This generous space has a country cottage style, with ample room for food storage and preparation, as well as family dining and entertaining. “This is where we spend most of our time,” she admits. “It is a good family space and is lovely in the summer when we can open up the French windows on to the terrace next to the house.”


All three bedrooms are up on the first floor of the cottage. The master bedroom, which looks out to the front, is especially large and benefits from a deep, built-in cupboard. “All the bedrooms are double in size and enjoy views out over the greenery to either the back or the front of the house,” she says. “The views from the back of the house, out over the lawned garden towards the countryside and fields are lovely.”


Despite the property being picture perfect already, new owners could enhance it further, she suggests. Subject to the relevant planning permissions, there could be scope to extend out over the kitchen breakfast room to create additional bedroom and bathroom space. “We have also considered the option of adding an outbuilding, perhaps an office, summer house or gym at the end of the garden,” she adds. “My husband has made a very small outside office space, with electricity and wifi, in a shed away from house, but someone else might like consider more substantial space for working from home.”


One of the great joys of life at Cranbourne Cottages has been the proximity to beautiful parks and areas of gorgeous woodland. “There are lots of places for going on nature walks,” she suggests. “We have really enjoyed being so close to Windsor Great Park and Virginia Water. We also like to walk at Ascot Racecourse, which is about two minutes’ drive away. We are also within easy reach of the polo clubs, which is great for us as we are into horses.” The couple hope to stay in the area if possible when they move. “We do really enjoy being here – this is a great location,” she adds. “I do think it will be hard, however, to find another house whi
