THE STORY
IDEAL LOCATION It was in 1975 that the houses were built on leafy Victoria Road. "It had a garage, car port and driveway, which was ideal for a family with children who were just learning to drive." The family was keen to stay close to the sought-after Charters School and within easy reach of the railway station. "It is very quick to walk to the station from the house to catch a train to Reading or London," she says. "Yet the area also had a real village feel." INSIDE AND OUT The owners were thrilled with their new home and went on to upgrade it over the years. "We extended it by creating the breakfast room and then opening it up into the kitchen," she explains. "Doors from the breakfast room lead on to the garden, which is lovely in the summer and brilliant for entertaining." She adds: "We loved that extension because it was so bright and airy, and meant we could enjoy looking at the garden all year round." They also added a summer house to the outside space, where they would enjoy sitting with the doors open on sunny afternoons. "As a family we enjoyed being outside as much as possible." EASY LIVING The Victoria Road property is entered via a reception hall, where there is a ground floor cloakroom and a door through into the bay-fronted drawing room. From here there is an archway into the dining room, which in turn opens into the breakfast room. The kitchen, which also leads into the breakfast room, is at the end of the hall. "As a family we loved to entertain, and this arrangement of rooms worked very well for us - in the summer we would have barbecues or parties that spilled out into the garden while at Christmas we would often have 15 or 16 people round the table." GREEN VIEWS All four bedrooms and the bathroom are on the first floor of the Victoria Road house. "The bedroom above the garage is double-aspect and large enough for two single beds or a double bed. The bedrooms at the front of the house overlook the recreation ground and allotments so they enjoy very green views." There are plenty of attractive areas close by for those who like walking or cycling, she says. "We used to enjoy going to the woods or park - we often had picnics in Windsor Great Park and, of course, there are places like Legoland within easy reach too." GREAT POSITION Despite its leafy setting, the property is well positioned for access to shops, cafés and restaurants. It is easy to get to Ascot High Street, Windsor, Bracknell and Camberley. "This location is also brilliant for Heathrow and excellent for travelling into London from: the transport links are very good," she adds. The current owners can imagine another family enjoying the house as much as they did. "It was an outstanding home," she adds. "There was plenty of room for all of us. It was ideal for a growing family and a great place for adults too."
