4 Bedroom detached house Hurstwood, Ascot £1,000,000

SOUTH ASCOT- CLOSE TO TRAIN STATION.

Gazing out through the great glass doors at the back of their home, on to their garden and the leafy trees beyond, the owners of the house at Hurstwood relish the tranquillity. It has been 19 years now since they moved to the South Ascot property and they still congratulate themselves on having come across such a find. “The location here is everything – it is so lovely,” one of them admits. “We are in the catchment for Charters School, have good access to Sunninghill village, Ascot and the train station and yet we also have Swinley Forest at the end of the road. It is so quiet here that we can often sit out in our back garden and hear nothing but birdsong.”

AMAZING SPACE

Dating back to the 1980s, the modern property was empty when the owners first viewed it. “The lovely garden and the sense of space hit us straight away,” she recalls. “We could see it had enormous potential to be extended and transformed into a wonderful family home.” Indeed, the couple went on to enlarge the house and increase the living space by building out to the rear. They extended the kitchen, created a spectacular new family room and installed three sets of bi-folding doors to allow for seamless indoor-outdoor living. “Over the years, we have also carried out other work, replacing the bathrooms upstairs, redecorating, laying new carpets and having fitted wardrobes made for the master bedroom.”

HAPPY TIMES

Entering the substantial, detached home via the airy reception hall, visitors find there is an easy flow into all the main living spaces. To the front, there is a useful study and then a lobby leading to a downstairs cloakroom and the integral garage space. To the left of the hall, the large drawing room has a bay window, which brings the light streaming in at one end, and opens into the family room at the other. Next to it is the dining room or music room, which also leads into the family room. The long kitchen can be accessed from the hall and the family room. “The arrangement of rooms here gives us such a lot of space, as well as great flexibility,” she says. “We have all loved it because rooms can be used in so many different ways and the back of the house has such lovely views out on to the garden.”

WELCOMING FRIENDS

The chic kitchen, with its nine-foot bi-folding doors has access to the utility room and features a central island, with breakfast bar, as well as ample space for dining furniture or comfortable seating. “There is a good flow from here into the family room for both daily living and entertaining – and in summer we enjoy pulling the doors right back on to the garden.” The family room is a superb, multi-function space, with room to watch television, play pool and enjoy painting and other hobbies. “The family room and kitchen make it so easy to entertain – we have held large birthday parties, as well as barbecues, with the doors open, and Christmas dinners for up to 18 people.” She adds: “The drawing room is also good for entertaining and has been enjoyed as another quiet place for relaxing and watching television.”

MANY OPTIONS

With the study and the music room, there are places in which to create work spaces too if necessary. “The music room used to be my therapy room when I worked from home,” she explains. All four bedrooms are up on the first floor, together with the family bathroom. The master bedroom benefits from an en suite shower room. “Subject to the relevant planning permissions, there could be potential to create even more space by going into the integral garage. Someone might wish to make this into a self-contained living space or annexe.”

GREAT LOCATION

The friendly setting of the house has suited everyone over the years, according to the owner. “It was easy for the children to get to school and for my husband to work in London. We have enjoyed being close to the racecourse and Virginia Water and there are lots of activities and groups to take part in if you choose.” She says. “There is a real sense of community he
