BRIGHT INTERIOR Approximately 20 years old when the couple moved in eight years ago, the property has been significantly and sympathetically extended in the time they have been there. "It had three bedrooms when we bought it," Sally recalls. "We removed the garage and replaced it with an extension to make it into a four-bedroom home, with a large, open-plan kitchen dining room. We then added a new garage." The property was given a bright, new interior, with a stylish contemporary kitchen and an interior design that brought in carefully chosen splashes of colour. "We love the seaside and the beach and wanted to evoke a coastal feel through the shades we used," she adds. FAMILY SPACE The property is set back from the road by a driveway offering generous parking. From the front door, visitors find themselves in the reception hall, with the study or drawing room to the right and the ground floor cloakroom to the left. The expansive kitchen, dining and living area then takes up the rest of the downstairs area. "This open-plan space is really where we spend most of our time," she admits. "There is a comfortable area, where we have a wood-burning stove, for sitting down and watching television or chatting together." There is also room for a table and chairs, as well as the centre island, which incorporates a breakfast bar. "This room is also fantastic for parties and for entertaining friends and family - my sister has lots of children, and they can sit and watch television where we can see them while we are around the kitchen table." LEAFY VIEWS Upstairs, both the guest room at the front and the master bedroom have en suite shower rooms. The two back bedrooms share the family bathroom. "We have a lovely big window in our room, which looks out over the garden towards the trees and the river," she says. "We see so much wildlife from here, including ducks as they fly past." The property is easy to look after and comfortable to live in, Sally explains. "It is a really good modern home which you do not have to do anything to unless you want to," she adds. ON THE TRAIL The surrounding area has given Sally and Rob all the opportunities for outdoor living they were seeking. Nearby Castell Coch nestles in beech wood surroundings that contain rare plant species and are protected as a Site of Special Scientific Interest. This historic fairy tale style building dates back to the 19th century and is a well-known landmark. The area is also known for the Taff Trail, a route which runs between the waterfront at Cardiff Bay in the south and the market town of Brecon in the north. Much of the Taff Trail follows former tramway, railway and canal routes. It is used by walkers and cyclists for trips of varying length throughout the year; parts are also suitable for horse riders. PERFECT BALANCE The M4 is also very easy to reach from the house, providing excellent connections to Newport, Bristol and Swansea. "We love this area because it is so convenient, with everything we need on the doorstep - there are good schools close by, sporting facilities, bus routes and trains," she adds. "We have all the benefits of the city within reach, yet we live in these beautiful surroundings and can sit out in our quiet garden enjoying the sound of the river and watching the birds in the trees."
Setting The Scene
The family house is set in peaceful surroundings. To the rear, the garden is low maintenance. It has been laid to gravel, and features shrubs and trees. There is a large wooden shed with electric and an attached kennel to the front of the shed. Side access leads to the front of the property, which is also laid to gravel and is handy for owners of multiple cars.

Whitchurch is popular suburb of Cardiff just off the M4 Motorway. In the village of Whitchurch you will find an excellent High Street with several shops, boutiques, restaurants and pubs.
