"There was a single-storey home on the plot when I bought it," she explains. "I chose it because I liked its location on a quiet cul-de-sac in Lexden. I had been living in the area for 20 years and my son was going to the grammar school.
"The position was perfect for me but instead of changing the existing house, I decided to completely rebuild it to create somewhere that was completely new and was exactly what I wanted."

The prestigious Lexden location was of paramount importance to her. Not only would it give her son easy access to school but it was also within reach of everything she required too.
The area has good proximity to exclusive shops and amenities, as well as good connections to the A12, providing links to the M25.
"It is very easy to walk into town from here, where is a range of shops and leisure facilities. You can also reach Colchester railway station quickly and from there it only takes approximately 55 minutes to reach London Liverpool Street."

Lexden is desirable for its leafy surroundings, sizeable homes, interesting architecture and good access to outdoor spaces. Lexden Park has some old parkland and mature woodland adjoining a wildflower meadow and an ornamental lake. It was declared a Local Nature Reserve in 1991. The mature oaks in the south-eastern corner, probably 400 years old, are a particular feature and from near here there are also views of Lexden Dyke, an earthwork dating from the 1st century AD.
"This is an ideal location for a family and this road is particularly pleasant," she adds. "I do hope to be able to stay in the area when I move."

It will be hard to leave the modern five or six bedroom home that has been such a labour of love for her, however.
"I like everything about this place because it is unique," she admits. "This house was designed by me to be a magnificent family home, with light, airy spaces and plenty of room for welcoming guests."
Visitors to the property find themselves stepping into an airy reception hall, which leads on to the beautifully presented dining room, drawing room and kitchen breakfast room.
"The interior has a very contemporary feel; it is welcoming and light throughout the whole day," she adds.

The comfortable drawing room, with its feature fireplace is a long space, which is perfect for entertaining. Opening into the kitchen at one end, it is very easy for guests to mill about between the spaces.
"This house could be perfect for someone who enjoys hosting big parties," she says.
At the front of the house is a second reception room, which could become a formal dining room, playroom, study or even sixth bedroom for new owners.
"There is plenty of space in the kitchen for a dining table. This is positioned next to the doors on to the garden, offering a lovely view while you are dining.
"The whole kitchen is a beautiful space and I spent a lot of time planning it: I love cooking and was eager for everything to be perfect. The kitchen itself is a German design and features an island that I wanted in the shape of a grand piano."

Upstairs, the bedrooms also offer great flexibility. Two of the larger bedrooms have their own en suite bathrooms. Another has a dressing room and an enormous walk-in storage area.
All the bedrooms feel bright and airy, and, with vaulted and sloping ceilings, also have lots of character.
"Once again, I have chosen to decorate these rooms in a very contemporary style," she explains. "I wanted the whole house to feel very modern and bright."
It is, however, a home that could be adapted to suit the needs of new owners, she suggests.
