5 Bedroom detached house Winkfield Road, ASCOT £3,300,000

Impressive Swinley Corner in Ascot was designed and built to a very high standard, offering exceptionally large rooms, a beautifully presented interior and a mature garden.

Relaxing in the glorious summer sunshine at their magnificent Ascot home, the owners of Swinley Corner agree they have had 10 fantastic years at the impressive property. Bought from new, the individually designed five to six bedroom home, is just one of three unique properties tucked away on a cul-de-sac, in a sought-after corner of Ascot. “Swinley Corner was built on the site of a much older property therefore enjoys very established, leafy gardens,” one of them explains. “As soon as we saw it, we loved it. It was within walking distance of the racecourse and high street and had very large rooms. There was also a wonderful flow between all its living spaces and out into its gardens, making it ideal for entertaining and big family occasions. With every bedroom having a bathroom, we also knew it would be a very easy place in which to have guests to stay.”

Set back from the road, with a gated driveway, Swinley Corner is set in mature grounds of just under half an acre. There is ample space for several cars to park, plus an over-sized, double garage, which is carpeted and has bespoke Garage Tech fittings. Since moving into the three-storey home, the owners have maintained the property to an impeccably high standard. It has state-of-the art heating and lighting systems and has been redecorated regularly with interior designers selecting paints, papers and fabrics from the likes of Farrow & Ball palettes and the Chelsea Design Centre. “We have fairly neutral colours in many of the rooms to make the most of natural light throughout the property and enhance the feeling of space,” the other owner adds.

The imposing house is entered via a grand reception hall, where an impressive staircase sweeps up to a galleried landing and four sets of double doors open into the main living spaces. “There are 10 of us, plus a grandchild, in the family so there are often a lot of people in the house and we wanted space for everyone to move around easily. We also love to entertain and have had 40 to 60 people here on occasion,” she continues. “We have had all sorts of parties here over the years, both inside the house and out.”

From the hall, there is access to the television room, family room, dining room and kitchen breakfast room, as well as the spectacular, dual-aspect drawing room. There is a ground-floor cloakroom, boot room, utility room and walk-in cupboard. A door from the dining room leads into the chic, contemporary kitchen, which has a stylish central island. French windows from the kitchen and the family room open on to a large entertaining terrace. “We spend a lot of our time in the kitchen and family room and in the summer enjoy wandering out into the garden,” he explains.

Four of the bedrooms are situated on the first floor of the house: each has fitted wardrobes and an en suite bath or shower room. “One of the bedrooms, which has a bathroom with spa bath, is so large that people often think it is the master suite,” she says. “The main bedroom, however, is even more spacious.” This room comes with a dressing room and a stunning, elegant bathroom, complete with beautiful freestanding bath. “There is also a very useful second utility room on the first floor,” she adds. “On the floor above, we have another bedroom and bathroom, plus a very large games room.” This flexible, bonus space could have a variety of work and leisure uses or could possibly form part of a self-contained space for a nanny or au pair.

The location of the house has suited the owners well. They have enjoyed strolling over to the racecourse or on to Crown land for a walk from the house. “It is also an easy drive over to the Valley Gardens or Windsor Great Park.” For shopping, they can head over to Ascot High Street or into Windsor or Bracknell. There is a good selection of independent and state schools in the area and good road and rail links to London and major airports
