"Although you could make some areas of the house more open-plan if you wished, we like being able to use separate rooms for different purposes. We love being able to close the door and light the wood-burner in the drawing room in the winter months, for example, as it becomes so cosy and inviting." There are rooms that can be used as work areas or for children to be able to have their own spaces for spending time with their friends. "In the summer, I love being in the sun room at the back of the house, which is just lovely as it opens on to the terrace and garden." IMPRESSIVE GAMES ROOM Oaklee is entered via a bright, inviting reception hall, featuring an elegant staircase leading up to a galleried landing. To the left of the hall, double doors open into the drawing room, while a single door leads into the kitchen, which in turn gives on to a snug, as well as a utility room and then cloakroom. "This is a very flexible house, which can be adapted as your needs change," she suggests. When the weather is warm, the garden becomes something of an extension to the house. Meals are enjoyed out on the terrace or decking and there is ample space for children to play. "We have also loved having space for a trampoline and the hot tub, which is housed in a pergola." Children's birthday parties have been held out on the lawn and adults have relished being able to relax out in the sunshine. "It is very tranquil out here," she observes. NATURAL BEAUTY Portskewett is well located for access to the M4 and M48 motorways. "We have lots of relatives in England so have enjoyed being close to the Severn crossing," the owner says. Newport, Cardiff and Bristol are all within easy reach, as is the Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with its magnificent forests, superb walks and picturesque river. "Portskewett itself is a lovely place to live," she adds. "It is a very friendly village, with a local pub and shop, as well as the school, and lots of nice places to walk. We hope to stay close by when we move but will miss this house itself and its very peaceful setting."

Just a short car ride takes you to the famous Celtic Manor where the Ryder Cup was held, there is also several other Golf courses in close proximity including St Pierre, Dewstow, Llanwern and Raglan.
