7 Bedroom detached house Wickerstreet Green, Kersey £1,200,000

With far-reaching views across the glorious Suffolk countryside, Acorns is in a simply idyllic position and has also been a magnificent, multi-generational home

Watching four generations of their family walking around the parkland grounds of Acorns, hunting for Easter eggs, is just one of many wonderful memories the current owners will take with them when they leave. “It was occasions like that that made us really appreciate everything we have here,” . seeing everyone enjoying themselves so much. We have had so many happy times here, from garden parties and New Year’s Eve celebrations to graduations and Christmases. We bought this house in 1985 because we thought it would be a lovely place for our children to grow up in – and it has been everything we had hoped it would be.”

Thought to have been built in the 1970s and set within an acre of its own land, Acorns had the potential to be extended and remodelled to offer substantial family accommodation. “We created a two-storey, two-bedroom annexe for parents to live in, giving them the joy of seeing their grandchildren grow up,” . “We also added a large orangery to the back of the main house and built a detached barn, with workshop and storage space, as well as a games room, where our children could have parties and spend time with their friends. This gave them their own space when they were teenagers.”

In 2015, the whole house was refurbished from top to bottom. This included redecorating, replacing the en suite bathrooms and laying beautiful oak flooring throughout much of the ground floor. Today, the interior is bright and inviting, with rooms designed and décor chosen to enhance the abundance of natural light. The property is entered via a lobby and then the airy reception hall, where an exquisite, handmade wooden staircase makes quite a feature within the space. The hall leads to a cloakroom, study and snug, as well as the kitchen breakfast room and drawing and dining room. Doors from the drawing room open into the capacious orangery and the kitchen leads into the utility room. “The back of the house has been wonderful for entertaining and celebrating special occasions,” . “In the summer times are spent in the garden around the pool and at Christmas the orangery looks magical with all the lights and the drawing room is cosy and inviting with the fire on.”

Upstairs in the main part of the house, all five bedrooms are accessed from the large landing, which is flooded with light. The master bedroom has an en suite shower room, which in turn opens on to a balcony that can also be accessed from the annexe. Another bedroom has an en suite bathroom while the remaining rooms share the family bathroom. The annexe, which has its own entrance, comprises a large open-plan kitchen, dining and living space, as well as a conservatory. Upstairs, there are two large bedrooms and a shower room. “This was ideal for parents as they were able to enjoy their independence and have friends and family to stay.”

The garden, which has been kept very natural, has been an integral part of life at Acorns. Summers have been spent by the swimming pool, barbecuing with family and friends and playing cricket, rounders and football. “We have had many occasions when groups of of our son’s and daughters friends would camp in the garden, swim in the pool and play games in the barn,” The parkland-style garden also appeals to wildlife, with the owners often spotting pheasants and woodpeckers. “I kept an area open between the trees to give us the views out over the fields towards Groton Wood Nature Reserve,” “It is a joy to sit on the terrace by the barn and look across the open Suffolk skies and countryside.”

When the weather is fine, the couple like to follow one of the many footpaths in the area, head into nearby Constable Country or make their way to the coast which is only 45 minutes drive away.. “There are golf courses close by, places to go horse-riding and lots of country pubs and restaurants.” At the same time, they have enjoyed the convenience of being within easy reach of
