Living in Ascot
Ascot is perhaps best known for horseracing and hats. But the small, affluent town in Berkshire offers its residents so much more. Surrounded by lush, rolling fields, Ascot is where the countryside meets convenience. With excellent transport links and schools, chic shops and classy restaurants, this town is a popular choice for anyone looking for a luxurious but peaceful suburban lifestyle.
History of the area
Today, this small town has a big reputation but that wasn’t always the case. Previously an area of open heathland, Ascot’s history only really started in 1711 when Queen Anne described the area as an ideal place for horses to “gallop at full stretch.” The first race meet happened later that year and the town has since become home to the world-famous Ascot racecourse. The town has also been home to many celebrities over the years including John Lennon, Ringo Starr and Brian May!
The property market
Properties for all tastes
When it comes to property, Ascot has a rich assortment of options, from mansions and modern flats, to period homes, country cottages and private gated communities. With house prices in the town significantly higher than the national average, Ascot continues to attract buyers looking for a prestigious but peaceful home.
Popular places to live
The town has several highly sought after neighbourhoods. With excellent schools and a rural feel, North Ascot is particularly popular with families. In South Ascot, properties on St Mary’s Road, Friary Road and Coronation Road are particularly appealing for buyers looking for luxurious, sprawling spaces to call home.
Schools and education
Ascot boasts a range of exceptional private and state schools for children of all ages. In recent Ofsted reports, primary schools Ascot Heath and Cheapside CofE were graded “Good” and St Francis Catholic Primary School was described as “Outstanding.” Local secondary school, Charters was graded “Good” with an “Outstanding” sixth form. While St Mary’s School, LVS Ascot and Hurst Lodge are just some of the highly esteemed boarding and private schools in the area.

With excellent transport links into London and beyond, Ascot is quickly becoming a popular commuter town. Rail users can travel to Waterloo and Paddington in around one hour. With a stop at Clapham junction, commuters can conveniently continue their journey on the Victoria tube line. The town is also well placed for drivers with the M3, M4 and M25 within easy reach. For travel further afield, Heathrow is just over 30 minutes away by car.
