6 Bedroom detached house Wedgwood Avenue, Blakelands, Milton Keynes £825,000

Offering exceptional space and with spectacular views out across Tongwell Lake, the house on Wedgwood Avenue has been a truly special family home for 30 years

Most weekends when the weather is fine, the owners of the house on Wedgewood Avenue in Blakelands will take a stroll beside Tongwell Lake. Here they can amble beside the water and watch the wildlife over on the island that sits in the middle. “We originally chose this house because of its proximity to the lake,” one of the owners remembers. “We often like to go for a walk there because it is so near and so beautiful. But we do also have views out over the greenery towards the lake from some of the bedrooms. When you take in this wonderful outlook, you have a sense of being right in the countryside when in reality you are close to everything you need. We are in a great location for getting to shops, schools and the M1 motorway.”

FAMILY LIFE
Thought to have been built in 1987, the attractive, detached, six-bedroom house offers accommodation across three storeys. “We liked the layout and the space it offered, but in the year 2000, we decided to extend it further,” he explains. “A two-storey extension was carried out to one side. This gave us an additional two bedrooms on the first floor of the house and allowed us to enlarge the kitchen and create the dining room below. The extra space was ideal as the children became older. This has been a great family home to us over the past 30 years.”
IN THE KITCHEN
Set back from the road by a good-sized front garden and generous driveway leading to a double garage, the property is entered via a front door to the right of the main part of the building. This opens into a corridor, which leads past a downstairs cloakroom and utility room to a central hall. A door from the hall gives onto the kitchen breakfast room, where there is ample space for food preparation and storage, and plenty of room for a table and chairs. There is also a door onto the garden. “The kitchen breakfast room is where we tend to spend much of our time when we have friends or family here with us,” he says.
AN EASY FLOW
Double doors from the kitchen breakfast room open into the study, which in turn leads through to the dining room. Here sliding doors can be pulled back onto the garden on fine summer days. Either of these two rooms could have a range of alternative uses, including as a playroom, snug, teenagers’ den, music room or other leisure space. The study leads into the sizeable sitting room, which benefits from a dual-aspect and an abundance of windows. “This is the room I like being in the most,” he admits. “It is also a superb space for entertaining.” In the summer, people spill out into the garden from the dining room and kitchen. This has proved to be a beautiful setting for summer parties and barbecues.
A VERSATILE HOME
The upper storeys of the house also provide exceptional versatility. The master bedroom, which has an en-suite shower room, is very much the standout room. It offers generous space and captures glorious views out over the lake. “We love to look out towards the water from here and watch the ducks, swans and other birdlife.” Two other lovely bedrooms also capture waterside vistas. The family bathroom and two further bedrooms are also on the first floor of the house. These could equally make great study or dressing room spaces. “Finally, there is another large bedroom and an en-suite bathroom on the top floor of the house,” he continues. “This was our daughter’s room, which worked very well as she was able to enjoy her privacy and some independence up there.”
A QUIET PLACE
The owners agree they will miss all the space the house offers. They are moving on now because they are downsizing. “We have really enjoyed being here because it is so beautiful and so quiet,” he adds. “At the same time, we have found it easy to get into Newport Pagnell, Milton Keynes and even London when we have needed to. We will miss our regular walks around the lake and will miss making ourselves a cup of tea on occasion and carrying it out to the front garden so we can enjoy it as we look over towards the lake. This has been a very happy home for us.”
SETTING THE SCENE
The house on Wedgwood Avenue has a front and rear garden. It captures commanding views out towards Tongwell Lake. The garden to the rear is a particularly good size. The house has a driveway for off-road parking and a double garage.
