4 Bedroom detached house Shuttleworth Grove, Milton Keynes £575,000

The handsome, red-brick house on Shuttleworth Grove has been transformed to offer an abundance of good family living space, plus rooms for work, leisure or hobby purposes

Stepping into the four-bedroom house on Shuttleworth Grove, visitors are often surprised by the amount of flexible space it encompasses. The current owners have opened it up and extended its living space to create versatile rooms that could be used for all sorts of activities. “We are both pianists and we wanted to have a large music studio with room for two grand pianos,” one of them explains. “We had an integral double garage and this was ideal for the purpose. We converted it and it is now perfect for us.” This incredible space could equally be perfect as a very large office for anyone seeking to work from home. It could be a superb gym, hobby room or art studio, or it could be ideal as a teenagers’ gym or children’s playroom. Subject to the relevant planning permissions, new owners could even consider using this part of the property as an annexe. “This is one of my favourite places in the house,” she adds.

OPEN-PLAN LIVING
It has been almost 20 years now since they first bought the house, which dates back to 1998. “We liked the space it offered – it was just the right size for us at the time,” she admits. “We could also see that it had huge potential.” Over the years, other upgrading work has also been carried out. The owners have removed walls between the sitting and dining room, and the kitchen and dining room. They also opened up the kitchen and the utility room. This has created one open-plan space along the back of the house and into the sitting room. “This was the style of living we were seeking and it has worked very well for us,” she agrees.
EASY FLOW
The house is set back from the road by a front garden and driveway. It is entered via a porch and then the central reception hall. The long sitting room, which has a feature fireplace and an abundance of natural light thanks to its large window, overlooks the front garden. This room now flows easily through to the dining room, where large glass sliding doors frame the garden beyond. “This has been somewhere that we have used more and more as the children have got older,” she says. “The sitting and dining room area has been ideal for both family living and entertaining.” The sliding doors from the dining room and the easy flow through into the kitchen could suit anyone who enjoys hosting barbecues and summer parties. “This has been a lovely house for having friends and family over,” she agrees.
A UNIQUE ADDITION
The kitchen is light and airy and arranged for convenient food storage and preparation. At one end, there is a high table with bar stools, which is perfect for casual meals or light snacks. It is also the ideal spot for pausing with a cup of coffee. This also encompasses the utility area and has an external door. The music studio, which can be arranged in two zones, is also accessed from the hall. One side of this room opens into a ground-floor shower room and the other has French windows to the garden. This section of the property could be ideal as bedroom and bathroom space for an older relative or grown-up child seeking some level of independence from the rest of the household.
BEDROOMS AND BATHROOMS
The four bedrooms and two bathrooms are on the top floor of the house. The two largest are a very good size, with built-in storage and views out to the front of the property. One of these, the master bedroom, has an en suite shower room. The third and fourth bedrooms also have fitted storage. The family bathroom has a bath. “This is all still very nice, but it is quite possible that new owners may wish to upgrade.”
GLORIOUS SUNSHINE
The lawned garden has been a great extension to the house in the summer months. South-facing, it enjoys glorious sunshine and is a lovely place to relax. “There is space out here for new owners to add a conservatory if they wish,” she suggests. The proximity to shops, schools and good transport connections has also been ideal. “It is very easy to get into Bletchley and central Milton Keynes and to commute into London from here,” she adds. “It is a quiet location and we have enjoyed being close to Wavendon village.”
Outside
The house at Shuttleworth Grove sits in good-sized gardens. To the front, there is an area of mature planting, plus a driveway for off-road parking. To the rear, the house opens up onto an enclosed, south-facing garden, with a terrace, lawn and ample space for children to play.
