5 Bedroom detached house Birch Lane, ASCOT £1,650,000

A Five bedroom detached house sitting on approximately 2.25 acres with garage and parking for numerous cars due to its large frontage and driveway.

A Magnificent magical home, set within in tranquil grounds of approximately 2.25 acres, complete with gorgeous gardens, natural woodland and an abundance of wildlife

The Story
Sitting in her garden, watching the birds in the trees, Katie thinks back over all the happy times she and her family have spent at Redwood. The family moved to the Ascot house some 27 years ago after being drawn to its seclusion and natural beauty. “It is down a long drive, off a private lane, right in the middle of a wood,” she says. “It is very peaceful, with lots of wildlife, including all sorts of birds and even deer.” The five-bedroom house sits in grounds extending to some 2.25 acres. As well as the garden, there are areas of woodland and a field. “We have been very lucky here – we have enjoyed our privacy and yet have been within easy reach of everything we have needed,” she admits. “This really is a paradise.”
Modern Living
Dating back to the 1960s, Redwood was renovated as soon as the family moved in. Since then, the ground-floor accommodation has been reconfigured slightly to create a modern-style kitchen breakfast room, with French windows opening on to the garden. The kitchen itself and bathrooms have also been replaced and the property has been redecorated in largely neutral colours. “I do have some statement Laura Ashley curtains in the kitchen because I do love pink, but everywhere else is fairly plain,” she says. “This is a very light house, which is well designed and laid out for family living.”
Special Occasions
Redwood sits comfortably within its generous grounds, with a driveway to the front and gardens all around. The house is entered via a spacious reception hall. To the right, the dual-aspect dining room is to the front of the house. This adjoins the drawing room, which also has windows on two sides. “I have pocket doors between these two rooms, which is fantastic as we can pull them right back when we are entertaining. This is fabulous at Christmas and for other big celebrations.” She adds: “The dining room is especially nice when the evening sun streams in. It is a lovely place to sit with friends and enjoy each other’s company.”
Garden Views
Double doors from the hall lead into the kitchen breakfast room, which has a central island with breakfast bar and French windows on to the terrace and garden. “We have had some wonderful barbecues here over the years – sometimes with 70 or 80 people,” she says. “The kitchen is probably my favourite room. We have two armchairs and I like to see in there and look out towards the beautiful magnolia tree.” The kitchen leads into a very long utility room and work space; a door from here opens into a garage. “These spaces were both originally garages – my husband used part of one side as his office but this could have a range of uses, depending on your requirements,” Katie suggests. “I have often thought this whole part of the house could even be converted into a fantastic self-contained annexe.”
Family Life
Also at ground-floor level are a cloakroom, good-sized bedroom and en-suite shower room. “I was a little unsure about having a bedroom downstairs when we moved here but it has been very useful,” she admits. “It could also be ideal for anyone seeking somewhere suitable for multi-generational living.” Four more bedrooms are up on the first floor of the house. The master bedroom has an en-suite shower room; the other three bedrooms share the family bathroom. “One of my sons currently works from home and uses one of the bedrooms as an office,” she says. “Our three children were brought up here and there was always plenty of space for all of us, as well as for visitors.”
Seasonal Colour
Indeed Redwood has been the backdrop to many wonderful occasions. “One of our sons was married here – we had a marquee and the most beautiful photographs were taken in the woodland,” Katie recalls. “We have had footpaths cut through the woodland and it is a lovely place to walk through. In late spring, all the rhododendrons burst into colour.” The field area has also given them great pleasure. “It has been Wembley, Lord’s, St Andrews and the US Open!” she jokes. “We have had all of this right here at home and yet we can also get into London and to airports very easily and we are close to Windsor and Bracknell.” She adds: “It has been a fantastic home for us and now I am looking forward to seeing it reach its full potential again when another family moves in and enjoys it as much as we have.”
Setting the scene
Redwood enjoys enchanting grounds of over 2.25 acres. A long driveway leads to a generous parking area to the front of the house. There are lawned gardens and there is a terrace for outside dining and entertaining. There are also extensive swathes of woodland, plus a fenced field area. There is also a garage.
