6 Bedroom detached house Poyning Lane, Middleton £750,000

The three-storey house on Poyning Lane in Middleton provides flexibility, space and superb family living, while being well located for schools, shops and beautiful Willen Lake

For the past 12 years, the house on Poyning Lane has been filled with sound of children growing up and adults having fun. “This has been a gorgeous house to live in and we have had such a wonderful time here,” one of the owners reminisces. “It has been perfect for our four children and us. Unfortunately, now we are relocating, but we will take such happy memories with us when we leave.” They bought the Middleton property, which now has five to six bedrooms, off-plan some 12 years ago. “Our girls were at Monkston Primary and so we wanted to stay in the catchment for Oakgrove School when they went up to secondary school, and as soon as we saw the show home here, we fell in love with it.”

LIGHT-FILLED LIVING
The generous house sat on a corner plot, which meant it had a good-sized family garden. It was designed with accommodation across three storeys and at the time featured five double bedrooms. “It was also a very bright house, with a big, open-plan kitchen dining room, with natural light pouring in through the skylight windows and glass doors to the garden,” she recalls. “Each of the bedrooms had two windows, which ensured they were all very light as well.”
AMPLE SPACE
Since moving in, the owners have enhanced the property even further. They have redecorated rooms and added a digital shower. They added two more sheds, for the storage of bicycles and other outdoor equipment, to the garden, giving them a total of three, and they created an outside play area. “There was originally a carport, which we decided to replace with another bedroom and an office,” she explains. “But there is still ample space to park here, with two of our own dedicated spaces, room on a shared driveway and additional space down the side of the house. We have five cars between us and never have a problem!”
A FLEXIBLE HOME
Today, at ground-floor level, the property encompasses the open-plan kitchen room, a large sitting room, the new bedroom, the office and a downstairs cloakroom. “The new bedroom has been ideal for when my husband’s relatives come to stay from Canada, but it could have all sorts of different uses for new owners – it could be a family room or playroom, for example. The office has a soundproof door, so my husband can work without being disturbed. I also play the saxophone in there!” She continues: “The kitchen dining room is excellent for family life and entertaining. I spend a lot of time in there and people can come and chat to me as I cook. The sitting room is a cosy room for watching television together in the evening.”
A PERFECT LAYOUT
The first floor of the house features the master bedroom, two more bedrooms and the family bathroom. Another two spacious bedrooms are on the top floor, together with another bathroom. “The layout has been ideal for us,” she explains. “The younger children have been able to be on the same floor as us, while the teenagers love having their own space right on the top floor. One of the bedrooms up there is large enough to accommodate an en suite bathroom, should new owners wish to look into adding one.”
OUT AND ABOUT
In the summer months, they often spill out into the garden. They welcome friends and family and make the most of the outside seating areas and play space. “When the weather is warm, the doors tend to stay open and everyone wanders in and out,” she says. “We have also enjoyed making the most of all the green space around us here. My husband is a runner and can head straight out from here and we all love walking to Willen Lake.” At the same time, she admits, they will miss being so close to central Milton Keynes. “Everything is so convenient. I can be at my gym in the city centre in just five minutes and we are close to shops, supermarkets and schools.” She adds: “I think we will miss everything about this place when we go – it has been a very happy home for us for the past 12 years.”
Outside
The corner house on Poyning Lane benefits from two dedicated parking spaces, as well as access to plenty of additional space on a shared driveway and to the side of the house. To the rear, the family garden features a lawn, sections of mature planting, a play area and outdoor seating and entertaining spaces.
